| The levels of meaning are hidden within the constructed environment that contains contemporary objects and Renaissance iconography. To the observer, the painting’s superior consciousness of history is meant to stimulate curiosity thus promoting self-education and appreciation for history and art. Simultaneously, they bring awareness to the contemporary associations within modern civilization resulting in self-evaluation of one’s lifestyle and the contemporary signifiers of status or gender that we surround ourselves with. The pieces are structured to facilitate conversation and reach across social boundaries. My hope is that this will subsequently challenge the observer to think critically about the past and present and critique one’s own position in society. |
